Welcome to O-O Barrel Horses

Philip and I have been riding and training horses ever since we were young.  Philip is well known in this area for how well his colts ride in 30 days.  By 30 days he's put countless miles on his colts and used them all over the ranch.  If you catch him the right part of the year, his colts often are dragging calves to the fire, some in less than a weeks riding. Philip has a way of making nice horses. In addition to his training skills, he is also a farrier.  He makes sure all the horses feet are in good shape as well as shoeing a few outside horses. In 2008 he graduated with honors from Montana State University earning a degree in Animal Science - Livestock Industry & Management and a minor in Ag Business.

I have been riding horses ever since I can remember.  I started out showing horses in 4H and local shows.  As I reached Jr. High, I became more involved with barrel racing and in 1999, I began riding with a barrel racing legend, Mary Ketchum.  Mary got me hooked to barrel racing as well as training.  In high school my horse Smoky By Lucky Boy and I achieved many things, winning the NDHSRA Barrel Racing and All Around Cowgirl Championships as well as qualifying to the NHSRF 3 years in a row.  I also won the Girls' Cutting event my senior year.  Throughout my high school summers I spent a fair amount of time with ND Horseman and cutting trainer, John Hovde.  Through him and his son JJ, I have refined my horsemanship skills.

Their guidance helped me start many colts and their influence on me is still felt to this day as I've moved into training barrel horses.  In 2008, I also graduated Montana State University with an Equine Science degree. Since graduation we've moved back to my hometown, Baker, MT.  Philip is working for a natural gas company as well as day helping on ranches, AIing cattle, riding colts and shoeing horses.  When working with our breeding program, I continue to ride barrel horses preparing them for futurities as well as finishing a few colts.

Together, Philip and I have put together a breeding program that we believe in and are proud of.  With the help of our stallion, Frenchmans Elvis, we strive to put good quality colts on the ground that can go any direction you ask of them.   Instead of focusing on the quantity of horses that we're producing, we really focused on thequality.  We've put a lot of thought and research to know which bloodlines will cross best with our stallion.  We have several own daughters of top barrel racing producers however, we won't scarifice conformation for the papers.  We really believe in Form To Function and strive to produce the colts that have the conformation, the feet, and the brains to withstand the hours of long riding on the ranch, the wear and tear of the arena and have the smarts and grit to be able to handle it all.  With each mare we breed, we are happy to keep the resulting colt and ride ourselves.  We believe in our program and we ride it!   Whether it's working hard hours  out on the ranch, roping calves, or running barrels, we feel our horses are the type that the whole family can enjoy!

Thank you for your interest in our program.  We look forward to visiting with you!
